Strategic enrollment management (SEM) is a holistic approach to addressing enrollment and student success challenges, enabling the fulfillment of the institution’s mission. Focused on strategically meeting the needs of our community and students, SEM promotes student success, optimizes enrollment, and ensures the fiscal viability of our colleges. This module is an introduction to SEM fundamentals and strategies for integration. Unlike the Strategic Enrollment Management Resource Guide, professional development hours are automatically reported upon completion of this training.

Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) is a holistic approach to addressing enrollment and student success challenges, enabling the fulfillment of the institution’s mission. This module introduces system professionals involved in student outreach and onboarding to SEM practices that support the student from interest through enrollment. Participants accomplish this goal through reading, listening, reflecting, and ultimately moving promising practices from concept to action.

New Learning: Maximizing Financial Aid For California’s Community College Students

Financial aid is a critical driver for student success. Helping students at your college receive and maintain aid is a means of closing equity gaps while training faculty and staff in the basics of financial aid bridges campus silos. This module reviews maximizing financial aid for California’s Community College students, including promising practices for equitable financial support.

New Learning: New World of Work

This module explores the top-10 skills that help students succeed in the workplace in a rapidly changing 21st century. These skills are broken down for instructors to integrate into the classroom by providing skill-specific lesson plans and supporting materials.

New Learning: Supporting Students Through Dual Enrollment

This module describes different program models as well as the legislation establishing dual enrollment in the California Community Colleges. Dual enrollment allows students enrolled in high school to take community college classes that can count towards both high school and college graduation. This module was developed from the New Directors Learning Series and is useful to practitioners, directors and staff involved in admissions and records, as well as anyone interested in dual enrollment.

Equal access to education for all students across California includes basic accessibility of courses, instructional materials, and student services for disabled learners. Accessibility is a core component of diversity, equity and inclusion, and our accepted ethical duty as we represent all the people of California. To help faculty, staff, and administrators understand how to build accessible materials and resources for all students, the Vision Resource Center presents six new learning modules:

  • Introduction to Section 508 – Section 508 sets standards and guidelines regarding access to materials and communications for individuals with disabilities.  This module will assist in a user’s understanding of what Section 508 is and how it impacts individuals and institutions, as well as determining where and when Section 508 applies.
  • Reporting, Monitoring & Evaluation for Accessibility – Reviews the institution’s responsibility in developing the accessibility reporting process and discusses how to create a resolution process while documenting these workflows.
  • Universal Design for Learning – Explore the concept and benefits of universal design for learning and explains how it all relates to equity and disability in an inclusive environment.
  • Accessible Websites – Discusses the standards that make a website and the content accessible to a wide audience and provides resources that are available to design and test website accessibility compliance.
  • Accessible Technology – Reviews what accessible technology is and the variety of ways it is used to reduce learning barriers in campus populations.
  • Accessible Instructional Materials – Reviews various assistive technologies, who plays which role in selecting and adopting accessible instructional materials, and where to find system-wide resources to assist you in making your documents accessible.
